AKCH Visit #2 the EEG

Let me just say that sleep depriving a 2 year SUCKS! After keeping him up til 11pm last night, I had to wake him up at 6am. Then, I had to deprive him of a nap. He wasnt allowed to sleep until he got into the EEG and they said it was ok. HoleyMoley! That sucked. Thanks so much to my Grandma who came with us and kept him awake on the 1.5 hour trip to the hospital. We'll know the results of the EEG on Monday.

Long Road Ahead

I know I normally post update on Alvin on his blog. I'm not this time, well, because it's not an 'update'. It's more of an 'OMG I have to do what?". I have to keep him up late tonight, then get him up early tomorrow. Then I have to keep that precious little man from taking a nap until I get him 1.5 hours away to Akron Children's Hospital. He is having an EEG done tomorrow and he -has- to fall asleep during their alloted time. If he doesnt, we have to reschedule. THEN! I am not allowed to feed him anything solid after 8pm tomorrow night. Why? Because they are going to be sedating him on Thursday so that he can undergo an MRI of his brain/face/orbits looking for gliomas (tumors).

Ya'll. I am stressed. Beyond stressed. I have to do this ALONE. Eric was able to take leave last week, but it would have been impossible to take leave for this. I hate this geobach. I hate that the children and I have to live so damned far from Eric. I hate that he cant be here for his son through all of this. I hate that he cant be here for me through all of this. I swear that I am starting to come apart at the seams.

So, if you all could keep your thoughts on both me and Alvin over the next few days, I'd sure be grateful.

Akron Children's Hospital Visit 1

So, today we had two seperate appointments at Akron Children's Hospital. We saw Cardiology and NeuroDevelopment. The appointment with the cardiologist went extremely well. Dr Jacbonstein was wonderful with Alvin. He had an EKG, and an echocardiogram done while we were in-office. We are happy to say that EVERYTHING IS FINE with Alvin's heart! After the cardiology appointment we went to lunch, then to Alvin's neurology appointment.

First off, let me just say that Dr Victorio is AWESOME! She listened to everything we had to say. She was very informative and patient with everything we asked or had concerns about. After measuring all of Alvin's various cafe-au-lait spots. She talked with us about NF1, and about the high possibility that Alvin has autism. (This isnt a shocking theory. Autism has been mentioned before.)

She wants to perform more tests before she is comfortable with confirming a diagnosis of NF1. So, we have an MRI scheduled for next week. In the MRI, they will be looking for gliomas and/or for genetic deformaties of the brain. Alvin will be sedated for the MRI, which is scheduled to take ~2 hours.

For his 'staring spells' she has ordered an EEG. That has been scheduled for next week as well. Going to be a rocking good time attempting to keep him awake during the hour+ drive to the hospital. Dr Victoria also has referred us to an audiologist, a speech pathologist and an optometrist. The optometrist is supposed to be looking for lisch nodules in Alvin's eyes. Again, another marker for NF1.

Also next week, we have an appointment with the nephrologist(kidney doctor). We are seeing him due to Alvin's low amino acid count in his urine. So, I will be quite busy over this next week. However, we should have an honest, definative diagnosis shortly!

Miss Hope, I blogged!

Ok, so I went on a little hiatus. In all actuality, I've been doing stuff around the house; just nothing I thought was blog worthy. Now that spring is attempting to come, I will have more house projects to share with everyone!

Anyway, let's get to the little projects/bought items I actually have gotten to lately. I -love- me some spray paint. Spray primer and spray paint can make anything old and ugly into new and beautiful again. Take this old metal chair that our renters left. It was UGLY. Rust stained and off white. (Sorry, no before pics. I forgot to take them). After two coats of spray primer and three coats of Pumpkin Orange spray paint, we have:

You'll don't have to like it, but I sure do. Now we get on to the things I've been buying. I have been wanting some new seating for on the deck. I already have a table/chair set, so that was out. So, what do I spy on my latest trip to Home Depot? (I spent way too much time there.) These awesome light blue plastic adirondack chairs. I snagged me two of them.

Well, now that I have nifty new seating, I looked around and noticed the decrepid(sp) old light fixtures on my back porch. Well....that's nothing another trip to Home Depot couldnt fix! So, armed with my (finally loaded) Child Support card, I went and bought all new exterior light fixtures. I love them! Dont you?
Then, because I was on a roll, and that card was screaming "Buy stuff!" I ordered myself a hammock. With a stand, because wouldnt you know, I dont have two trees anywhere near close enough to hang a hammock from.
So, keep an eye out on the blog. I am going to attempt to keep it more updated as I do more things around the house. I cant wait til May so I can plant flowers!
