Father's Day 2012

So, today was Father's Day. Unfortunately, Eric had to work a 12-hour shift today, so we were unable to do anything big for him. I made lasagna and fruit cobbler. His favorites. The kids colored him pictures and filled out some questionares I found online. The girls are older, therefore, they have a better idea of the answers to the questions. Alvin, however, was hysterical. I asked him the questions, and he responded. I wrote his answers down.

I have to explain some of these answers. His favorite thing to do is 'drink'. Alvin means Mt Dew. I assure you Eric is NOT a drinker. At all. He never drinks alcohol. I do mean never. He likes to wear "Jeep". Eric has a jeep t-shirt that he wears a lot. When my Dad goes to work he "fan". Your guess is as good as mine. I've got no clue.

WE DID IT!!!!!!

Wolfie will be getting his bike!!!!!! We just hit goal this afternoon! I'm so amazed at the fact that we did this TWO WEEKS from when I began this. Cindy (Wolfie's mom) and I really thought it would take 'til his birthday. You all proved us wrong. Two weeks. 49 different donations. I can't wait to post pics of Wolfie with his bike for everyone to see.

Special thank you's go out to L*** for setting up the Scentsy fundraiser for Wolfie. To BellesUniqueBoutique for offering the earbuds as a giveaway. To the community at NAMEREDACTED for helping us get awareness of this fundraiser and finally, to each and every person to shared, tweeted, pinned, or donated.

Speech Evaluation

Today was Alvin's speech evaluation for private speech services. It was long and brutal. Well, to me anyway. He seemed like he was having fun the whole time. About halfway through the eval, the SLP (speech language pathologist) brought the OT (occupational therapist) in to observe the eval. After doing some minor evals of her own, and some talking between the two of them, they feel confident that Alvin has Global Dyspraxia aka Developmental Dyspraxia. In other words, it's not just his speech that is being misinturpreted, but everything. They said that the dyspraxia would cause the low tone, drooling, motor control issues, and some of the sensory issues, if not all of them. So, yeah. Next stop is to see the neurodevelopmental pediatrician. How much of this is NF, and how much isn't, we don't know. Wonderful. Ugh. I'll get a full write up of the evaluations in the mail sometime in the next few days, so look for those once I get them. Anyway, some pics from today. They are pretty boring though, so you can skip them if you want.

Spontaneous speech evaluation. The SLP was sitting behind that two way mirror and listening to him babble to himself while playing.
The articulation evaluation. She'd say something and he was supposed to repeat it back. Supposed to being the operative phrase.

Once a blue ... hair?

So, every summer break, the kids get to go wild. Stay up late, sleep in, wear what they want (within reason). It also means they get to do funny things with their hair. Today, Alvin and Erin both dyed their hair. (It's Manic Panic people. It washes out in a few washes).

It's hard to see his blue, but I assure you it's there.

Wolfie's 37% Giveaway

Once again, I find myself overwhelmed at the generosity of people. Just last night, I was posting about Wolfie's 25% Giveaway. Now, 24 hours later, here I am posting about Wolfie's 37% Giveaway. Yes, you read that right. An anonymous person generously donated a $25 iTunes card.( In the spirit of being worldwide, those outside the US can have $25 deposited into their PayPal account.) I also have planned giveaways at 50%, 75%, and 100%!

I still cannot believe that this was started on May 30th, and already we're at 39% of his fund. This is completely  amazing. I talked to Wolfie's mom earlier, and she said he's getting very excited. I can't wait to see pics/videos of him with his new bike. (Which I will post on here for everyone to see, assuming Wolfie's mom is ok with that.) So, without further ado:

a Rafflecopter giveaway

Contest ends June 10th. This makes it a 6 day contest. If you cannot enter through the Rafflecopter, you can email your entries to wildriceforallseasons@gmail.com and I'll manually enter you. Thank you so much for everyone who's donated. Also, thank you to everyone who's shared, tweeted, pinned, etc.

I'm so humbly amazed at the generosity of people. In just 4-5 days, we've made it to 26% already! This is so amazing. Wolfie is going to be so happy when he gets his bike. As I've posted on my Facebook page, I have a giveaway for reaching 25%. The owner of BellsUniqueBoutique (Facebook) has donated a set of custom wrapped earbuds for this goal. So, without further stalling on my part, here is the giveaway:

Alvin meets Mater

We went to a car show at a local Arby's today and Mater was there! Alvin was sooo excited to get to see Mater in real life. He actually said "Mater". (Granted, it was said as "ay-er", but close enough for me!) So, it was definitely worth going! Plus, I think it's totally awesome that someone made an old tow truck into Mater.

Audiology appointment

Since school let out yesterday and Alvin wouldn't be receiving speech through it during the summer, his pediatrician referred him to a speech clinic. Part of the process to be seen by the SLP (speech language pathologist) is to have an in-depth hearing test done. Well, we did that on Wednesday.

Here he is doing the one test with the audiologist. When he heard the 'bird', he was to put a peg on the board. She was showing him how to do it at this point.

We are proud to say that HE HAS NORMAL HEARING! Woo hoo. One thing that works like it's suppose to. He has his follow up appointment with the SLP on Wednesday to talk about where to go from here. He'll most likely have very intensive speech therapy to work on the apraxia more than the school could do. Look for the post on that next week!
