Flower planter from an old door

Yep. That's right. I turned this pile of stuff into a planter. Sort of. I like it, but you may not! So, here's how I did it, and how much it cost.

1 old door ($10 on a local buy/sell/trade site)
1 window planter kit ($15 at Home Depot)
1 set of window box holders ($9 at Home Depot)
1 hanging basket hanger ($6 at Home Depot)
1 hanging basket ($15)
various flowers ($5)
1 small bag of potting soil ($4 at Home Depot)

Total cost: $64  You could do this cheaper if you already have some of the stuff.

It was very easy to do too. It would have only taken me 15 mins, but I had to wait mid project for my drill to recharge. So...

1. Attach box holders and basket hanger to door. It should look something like this:

2. Plant the flowers in the window box.
3. Stand door upright and place window box and hanging basket.
4. Admire your creation!

This is what it looks like in my own flower bed (which is still a work in progress)

We have tomatoes!

I know. I know. My garden update will be tomorrow, like it's supposed to be. But I was just soooo excited to get 2 ripe tomatoes from our little garden. The girls cant wait to slice into them tonight at supper. Yummy!

We also have quite a few pumpkins coming along well. The girls just insisted that I update on them as well. Each pumpkin is shown with one of the girls' hand as a reference for the size.

The girls are very excited that they are getting 'good stuff' out of the garden. They couldnt wait to show you all.

Vegetable Garden - Week Seven

Yes, I know this was supposed to be posted on Thursday. I'm a slacker. But, here it is. Better late than never.

Vegetable Garden - Week Six

So the garden is doing very well. I'm actually very amazed at how well it's doing. What started out as a "Who cares if it grows?" has really turned into a nice garden. Unfortunately, it looks like our peas have run their course. We didnt get many peas from them, but we did get some. That made the girls very happy.

Yet again, I am a day late. I know this. Better late than never! I am sooo stoked with the garden this week. It's all growing quite well and we are starting to actually produce!!

Then, this was him today. He was soooooo tired that he passed out laying with his sister. So cute! (Yes, I know he still has a bottle. Get over it.)

Vegetable Garden - Week Two

We're producing! I was worried with the horrid storms that have went through that our garden would be kaput when I checked on it today. But luckily the plants dont seem any worse for the wear.

Our Vegetable Garden - Week One

So we planted our vegetable garden today. We planted sweet corn, sunflowers, snap peas, broccoli, two kinds of tomatoes and pumpkins. Here is to hoping the garden grows. The girls are excited. We are going to take pictures every week to compare the growth (or lack thereof). After we got it all planted, I watered it. Somehow, me watering it turned into the kids getting soaking wet.
